Severe Injury
If your pet has been severely injured or wounded, you should seek care at an emergency hospital immediately.
Some injuries may be hard to see on the surface — for example, a pet who gets hit by a car may look fine on the outside, but could have serious internal injuries. This is especially true for penetrating or “stab-like” wounds on the chest or abdomen, which require intensive treatment.
What To Look For:
- Traumatic injury (hit by vehicle, bite wounds, falls from high places, etc.)
- Deep or penetrating wounds, especially around the chest or abdomen
- Signs of shock — collapse, weakness, pale gums, cold to the touch
